In the 21st century, the age in which we live, have been coined the “Information Age” or the “Digital Revolution” by many scientists and media professionals. Access to information currently available to mankind on all matters and sorts are at the click of a button. With this in mind, it is imperative that professing Christians living in the Western world especially need to take advantage of the freedom set before them and invest in studying God’s word and knowing the history of their faith. Today with so much weight is put on gaining secular education (which is not wrong in and of itself as long as it does not conflict with the law of God) the knowledge of God is oftentimes made less than secondary.

The Education of The Modern False Teacher

Now ask yourself: 'Does the preaching that comes from the pulpit of my church, indicate that the Pastor and that Eldership have the above qualification?' Just something to ponder.
"For the time is coming when people will not endure sound teaching, but having itching ears they will accumulate for themselves teachers to suit their own passions, and will turn away from listening to the truth and wander off into myths". – 2 Timothy 4:3-4
Just A Few More Thoughts on Dynamic Equivalence
I’ve been musing for a considerable time over the issue of Dynamic Equivalence in Bible Translation and I still find it hard to accept justification for such, since there is very little historic or even Biblical warrant for its use in many popular modern Bible Translations (i.e. NIV, TNIV, NLT, CEV, GNB, TLB etc.). If “readable” translations exist, why do some Bible publishers constantly feel the need to release new ones? It would appear that profit-making seems to be one of the motivating factors behind this trend, however I stand to be corrected if needs be.
Choosing A Good Bible Translation Part 3
When a genuine Christian seeks a publication of the Holy Scriptures they immediately, trust the academic integrity of the translators and scholars that contributed to its completion and they also have faith that what they are reading is the God-breathed writings that give Christianity its form and variation among other belief systems.
Continuing the topic of Bible translations, these are just a few other considerations to be mindful of when looking for a good Bible translation:
Choosing A Good Bible Translation Part 2
1. Do False Teachers Endorse That Particular Version?
Jehovah's Witnesses use the New World Translation which bears resemblances to the New International Version and other modern Bible versions. False teachers such as Myles Monroe, proudly use the New International Version, teaching Open Theism (The Purpose and Power of Prayer, 2002, pgs 14-16), Mormonism ('Rediscovering The Kingdom, 2004, pgs 25-29) , Kingdom Now Theology and the fifth century heresy of Nestorianism; which states that Jesus Christ is two separate people (pg 29).
Soapbox Update 3.0
Greetings Readers,
Salutations to you and yours for the 2010. Apart from the lack of updates in the late quarter of 2009, the site was down for a couple of days as well to facilitate some renovations.
The New Year is a hard of us and posting should go back to its regular frequency. I’d also like to send out a special thank you to the readers of Da’ Purple Soapbox, both those that agree with the stuff I post and those who don’t.
It is the obtuseness and biblical illiteracy of certain readers and commenters of this blog that gives me just a bit more motivation to write more about theology and the religious landscape in the Churches in Trinidad and Tobago. However, I’ll also make a special effort to delve into other topics apart from theology, including book reviews, satire etc.
With that said, feel free to contact me if needs be and be sure to leave feedback on the new additions and updates made to the site.
